Samburu Game Reserve
.
After breakfast we have an early departure to Samburu Reserve driving north passing the equator to Samburu Reserve. Situated in the arid north of Kenya, is one of the most beautiful national reserves in Kenya. Birding and stopping on the way when we spot anything special arriving there in time for a late lunch.

Acacia woodlands and lush riverine vegetation present an African mosaic and a diversity of habitats that make the reserve one of the finest in terms of birdlife and wildlife. A well range of common game we will be looking for includes the Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebra, Beisa Oryx, Gerenuk and possibly Leopard. Amongst the wealth of birdlife, African Pygmy falcon, Vulturine Guinea fowl, Somali Ostrich, Orange – bellied parrot, Golden – breasted Starlings and Somali bee – eaters as the possibilities.

Lunch, dinner and overnight at Samburu Serena Lodge.

Day 3:
Samburu Game Reserve.
A full day’s programme of game drives and bird watching in the reserve and a second night here. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Samburu Serena Lodge.

Day 4:
Lake Nakuru National Park.
After breakfast we leave the beautiful reserve for the world renowned Lake Nakuru National Park arriving there in time for lunch. Lake Nakuru is a soda lake and host to one of the great ornithological spectacles of the world. Hundreds of thousands of Greater and Lesser Flamingos (occasionally up to 2 million) traditionally form the carpet of shimmering pink that stretches as far as the eye can see

Around the lake-shore, Pink-backed and White Pelican swim in the shallows and feeding amongst them are Yellow-billed and Marabou Storks, Sacred Ibis, African Spoonbills, and an almost complete range of ducks, waders, terns and gulls. The piercing call of the African Fish Eagles is a familiar sound at Lake Nakuru and just one of the numerous birds of prey that patrol the park. Mammals too are plentiful, particularly Bohor Reedbuck, Waterbuck, Buffalo, Warthogs and the rare Rothschild’s Giraffe, whilst anyone tiring of the lakeside spectacle will find more than enough birds and other wildlife in the surrounding scrub and woodland. Lake Nakuru is one of the places in Africa to find Leopards and the park is also a Rhino Sanctuary with over 60 Black Rhinoceros, although they are some how hard to spot them due to the habitat they prefer. There is also a healthy breeding population of White Rhinoceros.

We are going to spend the days birding, watching wildlife leaving the lodge with our packed breakfast to be back for lunch and then venturing out again in the afternoon to be back just before it gets dark. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Sarova Lion Hill Lodge.

Day 5:
Lake Nakuru National Park.
A full day’s programme of game drives and bird watching in the reserve and a second night here. The park is a wonderfully atmospheric place; Lake Nakuru Park was the setting for a world winning classic film ‘Out of Africa’. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Sarova Lion Hill Lodge.

Days 6 & 7:
After breakfast we leave Lake Nakuru National Park for Lake Baringo driving further north and passing Lake Bogoria, we are going to be birding here for the next two days at the hotel grounds, the shoreline and at the nearby cliffs.

Arriving in Lake Baringo in time for lunch having stopped at two or three different places looking for various birds such as the Jackson’s Golden Backed Weavers, Silver bird on the way. Lunch and then afternoon walk at the hotel grounds which are very productive with various birds such as the Red and Yellow Barbets, Spotted Morning Thrush, Jackson’s Hornbill....

The following morning we leave the hotel grounds and venture out to the nearby cliffs in search of the White faced owl to be back for breakfast and then leaving the lodge depending on the climate – usually it gets hot in the mid-day at Lake Baringo. Lunch and then we venture out again for another walk in search of the Thicknees to be back to the hotel late in the afternoon.
Lunch, dinner and two overnights at Lake Baringo Country Club
.

Days 8 & 9:
After breakfast we leave Lake Baringo for Kakamega Forest Reserve the only rain forest in Kenya to arrive at Rondo Retreat for a late lunch. Lunch at the Rondo Retreat Center and then we head to the forest for birding. Kakamega is world famous for it’s endemics among them the Great Blue Turaco’s, Blue Mantled Crested Flycatcher, Hairy Breasted Barbet among others. Be back in the camp late in the evening in time for dinner.
Overnight and dinner at Rondo Retreat Center.

Days 10 & 11:
Early breakfast and then we leave for the world famous Masai Mara National Reserve with packed lunches. Arriving in Masai Mara late in the afternoon. All meals at Mara West Tented Camp which is located at the top of Oloololo escarpment and there are good chances of seeing the Schalow’s and Ross Turaco’s as they are resident in this area.

Day 12:
Breakfast and then we leave Masai Mara for Nairobi with packed lunch stopping at Manguo ponds and at Loresho Ridge swamp in search of the Jackson’s Widow birds where we shall have our lunch and then head for JKIA airport for your out bound flight.

Weather.
During our tour we can expect most days to be dry and fairly sunny, temperatures ranging from 20- 30oC, depending on altitude.
