Introduction.

Lamu - a town, island, archipelago and a trip back in time... This fascinating island is a snapshot of centuries past: a coveted trading outpost for over 2000 years.

Of swahili origin, Lamu emerged as a vital trading port where for centuries vessels, borne on the trade winds, ventured from the Moddle East and Arabia to the Horn of Africa, trading ivory and spices.

Today this enigmatic town is largely unchanged: gradually yielding its secrets as you twist and turn along the streets, glimpsing lush inner courtyards and fountains through ancient carved doors.

After intense experiment of Lamu, chill out either at Kipungani or Manda Bay- a delightful hideway with the country's longest undeveloped beach: where the only rule is....relax.

From here we set to sail in a luxuriously outfitted, traditional dhow, following in the wake of Arab sailors plying the spice route as in centuries past. We explore this magical archipelago, safe in hands of an experienced crew, swimming, snorkeling and sunbathing in remote coves and bays.

Whether under sail or powered by motor, the Dhow cruises majestically in the deep azure waters of the Indian Ocean. From time to time we drop to snorkel, watch Dolphins, Sea Turtles and amazing shaols of fish in the rifts of Kiunga Marine National Park.

Days 1, 2, 3 & 4: Kipungani Explorer - Lamu Island or Manda Bay - Manda Island.
Upon arrival in Nairobi you will be transferred to Wilson airport in Nairobi for your scheduled flight to Kipungani Explorer or Manda Bay. On arrival at the airstrip, you will be met by a representative from Kipungani Explorer or Manda Bay for your transfer to the lodge.

Spend four nights either Lamu or Manda Island.  Accommodation is in a beach cottage on raised platforms, made of indigenous woven palm, palm fronds and fine basket weave.  Your stay is on a full board basis including scheduled activities. Activities include scuba diving, snorkelling, kayaking, salt water fly-fishing and windsurfing.

Day 5: Lamu or Manda Island Airstrip.

Morning to be spent at leisure until your transfer to the airstrip. Upon arrival at Nairobi you will be met by Mbango Safaris representative and be transferred to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your outbound flight home.
