Join Mbango Safaris on a photo safari to Kenya's premier wildlife destination, the Masai Mara.

Gentle rolling hills, open savanna grassland, thickets and the impressive Mara River along with smaller tributaries, summarizes the scenery you will encounter in the Masai Mara Reserve. 1500sq km or 560sq miles in size, it is a fantastic destination to expereince real africa and the wildlife that has been resident there for 1000's of years.

Lions are abundant in the Mara and we will get to see a lot of these powerful cats. Cheetah are also seen regularly. Leopard are also found in the Mara but it is considered a special priveledge to see one of these cats. Thousands of other resident animals find their home in the Mara all year round. A visit between June to October provides you with an opportunity to photograph the herds of Wildebeest & Zebra on their to Masai Mara and on their way back to Serengeti as part of the great migration. We will also have a chance to photograph the resident animals and birds that find their home in the Mara.

The safari begins with an overnight stay at a city hotel in Nairobi. The following morning we are collected in our
4x4 safari vehicles and we begin the 5hr road trip through the Rift valley and some of Kenya's most beautiful countryside. We arrive at the Masai Mara in time for lunch and settle into our en-suite permanent tents. We then head out into the reserve for our first afternoon game drive.

We stay at
2 different locations in the Mara - 4 nights at each. All rooms are en-suite with electricity to recharge batteries. Staying at 2 different locations allows us to explore the different areas of the Mara and to be in different areas with the best morning light. All meals are included and catered for by the lodge and the camp we stay at. We always take a packed breakfast with us to maximize time in the field. Sightings always come first on a photo safari and if need be we will return to the lodge for a late lunch, or we may even stay out all day if the need to arises.

Along with the big cats, the Mara offers excellent photo opportunnities of many other mammals & birds including Elephant, Buffalo, Thompson's Gazelle, Topi, Coke's Hartebeest, Zebra, Giraffe, Impala, Grant's Gazelle, Bat eared Fox and of course Wildebeest!

At the end of this safari you will certainly feel that you have
explored and photographed the best of the Masai Maras resident wildlife. We fly from the Mara back to Nairobi where you will have a day room or an overnight stay depending on when your international flight leaves.

Client Comments: "We believe John is one of the best Kenyan photography guides we have met. His knowledge of the wildlife, its flora and fauna was extensive and he helped everyone to obtain perfect shots. We greatly enjoyed seeing and photographing such a wide variety of mammals and birds in Kenya and we intend in due course to travel again with Mbango Safaris." J and J G, London.

Entry requirements: Most of Europe nationalities passport holders and most other nationalities require
a visa for Kenya which is obtained in advance from the nearest embassy. You will also need to have various vaccinations and take malaria prophylactic. Please consult the nearest embassy about your requirements as soon as possible before traveling.

Samburu Game Reserve and Lake Nakuru National Park: For those who would like to extend the length of their safari, we offer an exciting 5 nights extension which can be added on before the beginning of the scheduled safari to Masai Mara Game Reserve.

After an overnight stop in Nairobi we will head north via road towards Samburu Game Reserve, crossing the equator along the way. Samburu Game Reserve lies 325 kilometers north of Nairobi in the arid northern region of Kenya. The Reserve is home to a number of animal species rarely seen in other Kenyan parks. These include the Grevy zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Beisa Oryx and the long necked Gerenuk. Elephant, Lion, Cheetah, Waterbuck and Buffalo are also commonly seen. The only form of relief from the hot sun comes from the wide Ewaso Ngiro River which rises in the foothills of the Aberdares, a few hundred kms to the west.

We spend 3 nights in Samburu and depart after a final morning game drive for our next destination, Lake Nakuru for 2 nights. We arrive at Lake Nakuru in time for a late lunch and once settled into our en-suite accommodation, we venture out into the reserve on our first afternoon game drive.

Established in 1961, Lake Nakuru offers an abundance of both mammal and waterbird species, notably White & Black Rhino and the millions of Flamingoes that feed on the lakes abundant algae. Buffalo, Waterbuck, the rare Rothchilds Giraffe, Hyaena, Jackal, Lion and Leopard are also resident in the reserve. Other common waterbirds include Pelicans, Cormorants, Grebes, Ducks, Stilts and Herons. Our 3 night stay at Lake Nakuru will offer a variety of different photo opportunities and is a location not to be missed.

We depart Lake Nakuru after breakfast and head towards our final destination, the Masai Mara, arriving in time for lunch. Here we will meet up with participants not on the extension.
