2009 Safari Calendar | 2011 Safari Calendar

East Africa is a great destination all year round. Each season has its advantages, and each area has its best moments. If you have already decided when you are going on safari, you can use these pages to decide on the best safari to book. If your dates are flexible you'll be able to plan your safari better by understanding the seasonal trends in East Africa. The annual wildebeest migration is an incredible event, only witnessed in East Africa, so we've also included a special section to help you plan a safari with the best chance of witnessing it for yourself.

January 2010:
Kenya's birdlife flocks to the Rift Valley lakes in the greatest numbers with flamingos assembling at Lake Nakuru in their millions and the pink mass they create is a natural spectacle. Reccomended safaris in this month includes Mt.Kenya Safari, Mt. Kilimanjaro Safari, Beach Safari, Photography Safari in Tanzania, Migration Safari in Tanzania and Bird watching safari.

February 2010:
The rains that begin in mid November are the signal for the Great Migration into the plains of the South Serengeti and Northern Ngorongoro. The Eastern Plains of the Serengeti come to life and offer excellent game viewing for some species of animals. Reccomended safaris includes Tanzania Photography Safari, the Great Kenya Safari, Rwanda Gorilla Safari, , Wildlife Safari, Beach Safari and Kenya Birding Safari.

March 2010:
This is the summer season in East Africa. The rains from November to March are usually scattered and localised and do not last for more than a few hours. However, there is a risk of heavier rain in late March but with the likelihood of a few showers the atmosphere is clear and views can be spectacular. This is the best time to do a Gorrilla Safari in Rwanda, Photography Safari in Tanzania and Bird Watching safari, Wildlife Safari, Family Safari, Golf Safari and Beach Safari in East Africa.

April 2010:
There is a chance of heavy rain during this period and showers can be expected for a few hours every day or every other day. However, this time actually offers the finest game viewing opportunities of the year. Wildlife concentrations are at their highest in the Southern Serengeti. We have scheduled Bargain birding safari in Kenya, and Kenya Bargain Wildlife Safari, Gorilla Safari and Beach Safari in East Africa.

May 2010:
In May, the rains may continue and the wildebeest herds are forced to start moving. The great journey starts in a rather disorderly manner. A few of the 1.5 million individuals decide it's time to go and start off towards Western Serengeti; the others eventually follow. Individuals and small groups gradually merge into vast herds on the march. We have our scheduled Bargain Birding Safari and Bargain Wildlife Safari either in Kenya or in Tanzania. It is also the best time to do a Gorilla Safari and the Rhino Charge.

June 2010:
By June, the migration should be in full swing as the herds make their way from the plains to their transitional range located in the Western Serengeti. The mass movements of the migration, combined with the wildebeest rut at the beginning of June makes this an exciting time for a safari in the Serengeti. This is the best time of the year for Migration Safari, Lewa Marathon, the Great Kenya Safari, Birding Safari, Cultural Safari and Gorilla Safari in Uganda.

July 2010:
By July the migration should be in full swing as the wildebeests and zebra herds make their way from the plains to their transitional range located in the Western Serengeti and further to the northern woodlands in th Masai Mara. Predators will also be highly visible.Best time of th year for Kenya Photography Safari, Kenya Birding Safari, Migration Safari and Gorilla Safari.

August 2010:
Generally warmer and dry. By mid August, the main herds of migratory wildebeest and zebra are located in the watershed area of the Masai Mara where they will remain until early October. Migration in the Mara usually in full swing with opportunities to see crossings of the Mara river. During this month we have our scheduled Photography safari and Birding Safari.

September 2010:
A lovely month, warmer and sunnier. Migration in the Masai Mara still in full swing with opportunities to see crossings of the Mara River throughout the month. Best time for Photography Safari and Cultural Safaria. We also have our scheduled Birding Safari during this month.

October 2010:
Many indigenous trees in flowers every where; clear atmosphere again and the short rains begin towards the end of the month. The wildebeest usually start returning to the Serengeti later part of the month so there are chances of a crossing at the Mara River. Massive Wildebeests herds on the move. During this month we have our scheduled the Great Kenya Safari, Photography Safari and Birding Safari.

November 2010:
November brings the Mombasa Carnival in Kenya with floats, parades and music from every culture, custom and religion. During this month we have our scheduled Birding Safari. It is also the best time of the year for a Beach Safari, Gorilla Safari and Cultural Safari.

December 2010:
Short showers in the early part of the month, becoming dry, hot and sunny. This is the best time of the year for Incentive Travel, Cultural Safari, Wildlife Safari, Birding Safari and Beach Safari in East Africa.
