Day
1: Leave Nairobi after breakfast and drive to Naro
Moru River Lodge arriving in time for lunch. The afternoon can be
used for an optional visit to the Sweet waters game
reserve.
Day
2: After breakfast, transfer to the
Sirimon park gate (2660m) the base of your Mt. Kenya
climbing trail. Here you meet with mountain guides and
porters and start
your climb. A 3 hours walk with lunch on the
way, takes you to Old Moses Camp (3300m) on the edge
of the mountainous forest where you will spent the night.
Day
3: Today you leave the camp after breakfast and continue
your hike through the moorland characterized by many
varieties of Senecios and Lobelia to Shiptons Camp (4200
m). Lunch will be taken on the way. The 14 km hike takes
about 6 hours. Overnight will be at the Shiptons Camp
just below the 3 majestic peaks - Batian, Nelion and
Lenana.
Day
4: Your climb takes you round the peaks of Nelion
and Batian via Hausberg and Nanyuki Tarn. Two screeds
up to 4600m will have to be passed before you reach
Two Tarn Hut where you will break for lunch. After lunch
your journey continues down to Teleki Hut at 4200m in
the Teleki Valley where you spent your night in preparation
for the ascend to Mt.Kenya' third highest peak.
Day
5: After an early morning breakfast at 4.00 am,
the path leads via a steep screed to the Austrian Hut
at 4790m. Here there will be a short break before the
final summit challenge to point Lenana (4895m) via Lewis
Glacier. You will descend on the northern side via Simba
Cole to the Mintos Hut (4200m) for lunch. The descend
continues down the northeastern slopes towards Chogoria
passing on the ridge of the Gorge valley and overlooking
Lake Michaelson. Your final night of your Mt. Kenya
adventure will be spent at 3300m in a fly camp at the
road head.
Day
6: After breakfast, you descend to Mt.
Kenya Bandas at 3000m where 4x4 vehicles will be waiting
to drive you through a dense bamboo forest on slippery
roads to Chogoria. Here you will have
your lunch before biding your guides and porters farewell and proceeding
to Nairobi or your next destination.
Weather.
During
our tour we can expect most days to be cold, temperatures ranging from 06
- 19oC, depending
on altitude. Overcast weather, particularly in the afternoons,
may be frequent, with likely rains and afternoon precipitation
is a possibility.
Entry
requirements. All European countries passport
holders and most other nationalities require a visa
for Kenya which is obtained in advance from the nearest
embassy. You will also need to have various vaccinations
and take malaria prophylactic. Please contact us or
